The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:11 this
day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Gerry Ritz,
presiding.
Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Alex Atamanenko,
André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter,
Jacques Gourde, Larry Miller, Gerry Ritz, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle
and Hon. Robert Thibault.
Acting Members present: Gary Merasty for Ken Boshcoff.
In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette,
Principal.
Witnesses: National Farmers Union: Terry Boehm, Vice-President; Colleen
Ross, Women's Vice President. Western Grain Elevator Association: Cam
Dahl; Wade Sobkowich, Executive Director. Compas Inc.: Tom Halpenny,
Collaborator; Conrad Winn, President.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of
Canadian Grain Commission.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
At 12:12 , the sitting was suspended.
At 12:17 , the sitting resumed.

Wayne Easter, seconded by Paul Steckle, moved, — "That, the Committee
invite Ms. Mary Lynn Charlton, President of Charlton Communication, to
appear to answer questions regarding any representations she may have
received from the "government, MP's and others" to undertake a
"propaganda" campaign on behalf of those determined to undermine the
Canadian Wheat Board.".
Debate arose thereon.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to,
by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.
Paul Steckle, seconded by Wayne Easter, moved, — "That, Ms. Mary Lynn
Charlton, President of Charlton Communication, be invited by the
Committee, to appear on Thursday, October 19th, 2006 and; that the
meeting be extended by an hour".
Debate arose thereon.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to,
by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.
James Bezan moved, — “That, the Committee holds two more meetings on
October 3rd and 5th 2006, in order to hear more witnesses on its
Canadian Grain Commission Review“.
Debate arose thereon.
After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.
By unanimous consent, Wayne Easter moved, — “That, the Committee hold a
meeting to study the situation of the Golden Nematode on Wednesday,
October the 4th, 2006, and hold a meeting on Wednesday, October the
18th 2006, to study the Canada-United-States trade relationship and the
Milk Protein Concentrates“.
At 1:20 , the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
